Watching green leaves shoot across the ground,
Crawling out of boxes and climbing up stairs.
I reached into that damp earth all summer
And pulled out nothing, but damp earth and worms.
Then October arrived and I despaired.
There were warm days and cool days,
And confusing days, all mixed up
Warm and cool fusing together to make something.
October ended with a shower of rain,
and sleet and snow and frost
Every where leaves lay frozen and wilted.
No longer saluting sky, but hugging ground
Seeking warmth, and hanging on for dear life.
Where did the sun go? Where is the warmth?
Leaves once green; now crisp, now brown,
But down below, something was happening.
Invisible to human eyes, but not to the eyes of the Creator,
The one who spoke it, saw it, and would call it forth again.
Brown on top. Seemingly dead, but the plan was His all along.
He knew the day, the hour, the very second when root
would turn to food, and become what it was meant to be-
Reminding me that only He sees all, knows all, controls all.

He decides when winds blow, and leaves change
When snow falls or turns to rain.
This crop is his handiwork. He created. He called it.
