So It's Holy Thursday . . .

. . . also known as Maudlin Thursday, and I do believe I'm feeling quite that way - tearfully or weakly emotional. Thinking about the God-Man, and wondering what his thoughts were the day before his very brutal death, as he ate supper with the betrayer, broke bread even, offering his very body and blood. Thinking too, about my many acts of sinful disobedience and how I am no different than those who tore his garment, mocked him, and nailed his body to the tree.  And yet I hear his voice, crying out, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." I receive  that grace daily, and where would I be without it?

Remembering my grandmother, who was also waiting on Maudlin Thursday, sixteen years ago, for her Father to call her home. He did. And I cried. And rejoiced. And bottled up most of the pain of letting go the one whose hands had bathed, spanked, loved, and held me. The hands that planted, dug, fed, washed, and so much more.

So today, of all days, is a tough one. I'm irritable, not long-suffering, and wondering if I took family communion in an unworthy manner. I was perfectly fine before communion, or so I thought. I feel broken into a million small pieces and wondering when I'll get it right? Back to the fountain I go, "the precious fountain that saves from sin, I am so glad I have entered in . . ."

So looking forward to Resurrection Sunday morning. I need it badly. "My Savior's not dead, He's alive just as he said!" (I might've just quoted Mrs. Patty Cake. But the point is don't miss Easter. It's about so much more than Easter egg hunts and jelly beans.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins, and purify us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9
